Jesus is making His final visit to Jerusalem. He was going there to die.
He was here to “accomplish” the will of God. He was God’s Passover Lamb.
He sent two disciples to fetch a colt “on which no one yet has ever sat.”
He waited. Then “He saw the city and wept over it.”
1. He wept over Jerusalem’s unthinkable ignorance (41-42)
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it! (Luke 13:34 NASB)
2. He wept over Jerusalem’s impending judgment (43-44a)
3. He wept over Jerusalem’s missed opportunities (44b)
They did not “recognize the time of (their) visitation.”
Jesus still weeps.
· He won’t enter a heart that won’t open the door.
· He won’t change a heart that doesn’t want to be changed.
Don’t go through life one more day wondering what it could have been. Don’t be found playing the “if only” game.
